The Steamer Coffee House & Kitchen’s new café-come-coffee shop brings together a few focused central themes to provide a purpose for all types of people. Parent and child day trippers, retired locals, petrolheads and coffee connoisseurs are all harmonised as one – all brought together by a true sense of community, quality food and fantastic coffee.

A large woodburning stove beckons you into the main eating area, filled with rustic wooden tables and enticing leather sofas. It’s cosy yet spacious, and provides unspoken zoning; a children’s play area sits well-within view of one side, the news on the TV up high on the opposite side.

Community building is at the heart of every decision and, in my opinion, is the essence of The Steamer. 

The name itself is a nod to the area’s past, taking inspiration from an incident in 1906 where a traction engine overturned on this very section of road – the idea coming from a news cutting brought in by a local resident.

Moreso, it’s the choice to source as many ingredients as possible from nearby suppliers, and the way local staff are nurtured. Venue manager, Leah, is one example – having proved herself managing a small coffee hut, she came looking for a new challenge, sharing Steamer owner Dan’s vision to create an inclusive environment. Mission success.

Artisan coffee bean roasters, Roastworks, take care of the supply from their roastery one mile up the road, and go a step further by personally training The Steamer’s barista team. Dan’s business partner, Josh, proudly carries the ‘best coffee I’ve ever had’ badge of honour multiple times over. 

Hungry tums are catered for thanks to an all-day breakfast menu served 7-days-a-week. The signature ‘Steamer’s Big Breakfast’ is the star of the show, along with the moreish smashed avo & eggs on toast, while great value breakfast baps from just £3.95 offer the chance to mix and match fillings. An afternoon menu brings classics into the mix, including bangers & mash, loaded nachos (veggie options of all included) and the Steamer’s Stew with homemade dumplings. Don’t miss the everchanging array of sweet treats and smoothies too!

Motorsport fanatics will immediately spot iconic track layouts hand-painted on the walls, and a large screen showing live race action. It’s obvious when you’re in the know, but subtle enough to not steal the show. 

Delve deeper and you’ll find an on-site sim racing experience centre, giving you the chance to get as close as possible to driving your favourite race car. It’s highly immersive and hugely addictive.

Keen-eyes will spot the Re:Fuel logo – an event for the community, by the community, celebrating all things two and four wheels. Special themed weekends year-round see the outside paddock filled with vintage classics, supercars and retro timewarp survivors.
