The Lime Tree, Cullompton
Feel the warm embrace of the Lime Tree Café – the inclusive culinary beating heart of Cullompton’s thriving market town.
This vibrant and inviting café/lounge proudly offers a warm welcome to locals and visitors alike. No matter your age or background, a friendly smile and a sincere interest in your day awaits you from front of house manager Ellie and the team.
Inside, a relaxed, inclusive environment encourages social interaction without pressure. The open galley dining area promotes small talk with neighbouring diners, and an open kitchen ensures you’re well connected with the kitchen team too.
In the front, a sofa and comfy chairs offer a different space to relax even further with a fantastic view of the High Street and the trees which give the café its name.
It’s an atmosphere you can choose to actively engage with, or just soak up the social ‘buzz’ while keeping to yourself with a comforting coffee and a book.
The menu is varied, versatile and enticing, and champions local suppliers as much as possible. Expect classics and familiar dishes with a twist, plus an ever-changing specials board which provides a fun outlet for the chefs’ creativity.
The chilli is a favourite – made using quality beef brisket (from just down the street), pulled and shredded to perfection. Other popular dishes include the homemade meatballs, club sandwiches and of course the sourdough breakfasts.
Coffees and cakes are available to go or for sit-in casual catchups, and a super affordable children’s menu means bringing the little ones is actively encouraged.
It’s a real success with the locals, which is often the ultimate test. Menu feedback from customers is requested to help create choices that welcome repeat customers, ensuring regulars return and strengthen local relationships.
Owner and chef Karinna doesn’t just cater for, but revels in the challenge of dietary requirements too. As a nutritionist, she’s well versed in understanding the needs of different diets and as such, is able to – and enjoys – adapting the menu as needed. As an example, nearly the entire menu can be made gluten-free!
While normally only open for breakfast and lunch, pop-up dining evenings run once a month to really showcase the sociable, creative vibe that The Lime Tree are trying to create. Expect sombrero-clad taco and tequila nights, with frozen mojitos and many an ‘Olé’ marking just one of many themed events.
Work on Cullompton’s High Street also opens up the opportunity for The Lime Tree to expand to additional outside seating in the warmer months for a bistro-style experience too – watch this space.
