Go Here… Springtime Shenanigans
Easter Egg Hunts
Easter comes early this year, at the tail end of March, and what Easter weekend is complete without an egg hunt? National Trust are treating families to egg hunt trails locally from 23rd March at Knightshayes, Killerton, Lydford Gorge and Castle Drogo, or try an egg hunt with a difference at Buckland Abbey, searching for dragon eggs! Prices are just £3 per trail which includes trail sheet, bunny ears and a chocolate egg.
You’ll find Easter egg explorations at many attractions locally, including Drizzle’s Green Guardians Trail at Sidmouth’s Donkey Sanctuary (£5 per trail), Powderham Castle, a fairies and ferns egg hunt at the scenic Canonteign Falls, an egg hunt with a chance to meet the Easter Bunny at Coldharbour Mill, and Crealy’s ‘Eggs Marks the Spot’ pirate themed egg hunt!
Why not create your own in your garden or local park? You could add a challenge to each egg found – do five star jumps or recite the alphabet backwards.
Daffodil Fun
Daffodils signal the arrival of spring, bringing bright colour back into our lives. Head to a pick your own daffodil farm for a vibrant outdoor experience giving you the chance to bring flowers back home. Strawberry Fields Farm in Lifton, near Buckfastleigh offers a pick-your-own daffodil experience, or why not try Amelia’s Flower Farm at Combeinteignhead.
Alternatively, enjoy a colourful daffodil walk. Dunsford Nature Reserve, Near Exeter (EX6 7EG) is free to enjoy and famous for its wild daffodils in early spring, referred to as one of Devon’s natural wonders!
Meet New Spring Arrivals
While spring is synonymous with baby lambs, they’re not the only baby animals to meet. Pennywell Farm welcomes a whole farmyard full of new babies at this time of year, or head to Dawlish where there’s a hatchery for waterfowl and very often fluffy new ducklings to meet – you can also see Dawlish’s famed black swans. But if you’re specifically looking for those bouncy lambs head to North Devon’s Big Sheep. The name says it all.
Easter Crafts
Join an easter craft workshop or get hands on at home by making an easter wreath, some easter bakes or simply painting egg shells. BBC Good Food offer up some ideas at: www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/easter-crafts
And Recycle Devon have some great ideas to enjoy a crafty Easter while minimising and reusing waste! www.recycledevon.org/love-easter-hate-waste
Indoor Activities
Let’s face it, spring isn’t always sunshine and blue skies so an indoor ace up your sleeve is always a good idea. Drop in for a craft workshop at your local museum – Exeter’s RAMM are offering print weaving, roll printing and comic strip creation classes – or head to your local library for fun, educational activities.
