The Marine, Sidmouth
From quayside to seaside, Exeter’s highly revered restaurateurs at On The Waterfront are bringing their stylish but casual approach to dining to their new charming Sidmouth seafront restaurant – The Marine.
Expect a chic, vintage décor complemented by traditional seaside artwork and an incredible seafront view. A horseshoe shape bar makes a great centrepiece and adds ownership to the tables that surround it helping you to feel cared for but not overshadowed.
This is no copy and paste. It’s all of the informal sophistication that the Exeter restaurant is known for while allowing its’ own identity to be created; a homage that highlights what makes this spot in Sidmouth so special.
There’s a real emphasis on community integration too. The new management have proudly retained nearly all of the staff who worked in The Marine previously, safeguarding local jobs and retaining the friendly, professional team who continue to run the operation. Not only this, The Marine is excited to be joining the wider Sidmouth business community as a whole, helping to bring local suppliers and traders to the top together.
On the food front, a varied menu combines Italian, seafood and some hearty British classics thanks to a selection of small-plates, main meals and big pizzas. Changing specials add to the offering to reflect seasonal ingredients and an extensive drinks menu has all tastes catered for.
The aptly named Moules ‘Marine’ is a particular standout dish – local mussels cooked in cider and thyme provide a great twist to this seafood favourite. Served with fresh bread and fries too it’s a sizeable portion. Pizza lovers will enjoy over ten different pizza combos, including the trio of pulled meats on a bbq base with the ‘You’ve Pulled’ or the vegan friendly Forest Fungi bringing together sauteed wild mushrooms, garlic, spinach, stilton and truffle mayo.
You can really feel the attention to detail on all the dishes served, each boasting their own serving style that we couldn’t help but comment on as they were set in front of us. It’s these little touches that add an extra little something to the overall experience.
This new ownership is starting as they mean to go on and The Marine is already proving very popular with locals and visitors. Set Sidmouth in your sights soon and try this new waterfront view.
